Day 9 of 73 : issa birthday party!!

disclaimer: **i've decided to take the pressure off myself and document what i can when i can! last week just got so crazy hectic that i literally couldn't even think straight.**

anyway, with that being said - here's one of the highlights of summer for our family: the kid's birthdays! day 9 was morayo-hope's birthday and it was a wonderful day for her! this past year morayo-hope decided that she is going to be a scientist when she grows up. once i was certain this wasn't some fleeting desire i made a booking for a party at a local shop that throws science themed parties. she was excited and so was i!

in years gone by, i have prided myself on getting stuck in and going full pinterest-mum on her parties. last year we decided on no party and decided instead to splash out on a very cute bike. see her 6th birthday adventure here , here and here. inspite of her joy at the birthday plans last year, she still gave a little whine about not getting to celebrate with her friends hence we went with it this year.  i did however decide i would not give into my inner "party mumzilla" and instead keep things super simple. everything from cake to goody bags was going to be outsourced. unfortunately for me, i failed to order the cake on time and so found myself baking like a mad woman on the eve of her party. judah managed to get to the cooling cakes inspite of my best efforts & had a good time digging in. and so it was at 11pm kola & i were measuring out flour and sugar and getting a fresh batch of cakes made for the unicorn cake someone really wanted!

the way this cake is leaning drives me nuts! i gave away ALL my cake equipment when i left the uk - i couldn't find a cake leveller in time!

the party was a lot of fun and a lot of morayo-hope's friends made it which was great! i had been worried that with summer vacation in full swing we would struggle but it worked out well...one of her little buds had only arrived from italy the day before and still came along! i can't share too many pics of the party because of images of other kids, but these capture the mood of the day perfectly!

we served cupcakes at the party to make things simpler. as soon as we got home, these 2 changed and had a little tea party of their own with the cake!
