40 before 40 update

so, I have exactly 1 more week in my 30s. I can’t quite believe how fast this year has gone by! i decided to give you guys an update on my 40/40 list.straight off the bat I can tell you that I haven’t accomplished all 40 things! but i’m not beating myself up about it because I know these are things I want to do so i’ll keep working my way through them and updating you as I go along. when I made the list, I was already 5 months into 39 and perhaps it was a tall order trying to achieve all these things in a 7 month window.

so where are we at? i’ll give you a rundown:

Learn / Do / Eat  something new

  1. Learn to surf - SCHEDULED FOR THE SUMMER, I’M NOT DYING TO PROVE A POINT.

  2. Go canoeing - AS ABOVE

  3. Attend a photography course and stop using camera on auto - CURRENTLY ON SAID COURSE AND CONSIDERING A FOLLOW ON MORE IN DEPTH COURSE AT RHODE ISLAND SCHOOL OF DESIGN.

  4. Travel somewhere with Morayo-Hope (hopefully we can do Paris) - WENT TO PARIS IN OCTOBER!

  5. Join an amateur dramatics club - because I’m an amateur…..and I’m dramatic - TO BE DONE

  6. Eat raw oysters - DONE & LOVED THEM! ALSO ATE SNAILS IN PARIS. YES I DID.

  7. Buy something, upcycle it and sell it - CHANGED THIS TO RESTORING SOMETHING OF MY LATE GRANDMA’S AND DISPLAY IN MY HOME. IN PROGRESS.

Stop the Procrastination

  1. Design a collection of 5 items - IN PROGRESS

  2. Open an online boutique and sell these 5 items - SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT APPROACH NOW BUT HAPPENING

  3. Buy a sewing machine and actually make a garment - NOT YET BOUGHT

  4. Fully crochet a blanket- I WANT TO DO THIS BUT AT THE SAME TIME I’M BORED JUST THINKING ABOUT IT!

  5. Knit something - AS ABOVE.

  6. Read & Review 7 books - I’VE READ MORE BOOKS THAN YOU COULD SHAKE A STICK AT. I’LL DO A POST OF MY FAVOURITE DISCOVERIES .

  7. Attend a writing course - DONE & LOVED IT. WANT TO ATTEND A MORE IN DEPTH ONE.

  8. Write a short story - IN PROGRESS

Step out of comfort zone

  1. Activate my youtube channel and post 1 video each month - ACTIVATED IG CHANNEL INSTEAD & LOVING IT.

  2. Pitch my idea to a TV producer - NOT YET DONE

  3. Renovate a room in someone’s house - NOT YET DONE

  4. Do a full makeover for someone - SCHEDULED FOR MARCH

  5. Wear a bikini - BOUGHT BIKINI! WAITING FOR BELLY TO GO IN AND SUN TO COME OUT.

  6. Organise the mums event i’ve been planning in my head: do it scared - NEED TO GET OFF MY BACKSIDE AND COMMIT.

  7. Each month for the next 7 months say yes to 1 thing I would never usually agree to (counts as 7 things towards my 40) - HMM, I’D ACTUALLY FORGOTTEN THIS ONE! HAHA! GONNA START!

Healthy Habits

  1. Cycling / Long walks with family once a week: (ironically as I’m writing this there is a group of 3 /4 pensioners setting off on their bikes after enjoying coffees in this cafe) - NATURALLY I FOUND A BIKE TO BUY. IT’S GORGEOUS OFCOURSE & IS CHAMPAGNE TO MY BEER MONEY SO I’M STILL HERE. WE WENT ON ONE WALK. THIS IS PITIFUL. ON THE UPSIDE I FOUND ANOTHER NATURE TRAIL YESTERDAY WHICH MH LOVED & MY TOES HATED AS I WAS ILL EQUIPPED FOR THE SNOW. THEY ARE NOW DEFROSTED.

  2. Pilates weekly - ERM. ANOTHER THING I REALLY WANT TO DO.

  3. Daily youtube workout with blogilates - JOINED SWEAT WITH KAYLA AND FOR A WHILE THERE WALKED AROUND LIKE I WAS MIKE TYSON’S PUNCHING BAG. FELL OFF THE WAGON AROUND CHRISTMAS AND HAVEN’T GOT THAT MOMENTUM BACK.

  4. Play Tennis once a week with Kola - WE GOT THE RACQUETS AND BALLS. WE HAVEN’T COMMITTED TO WEEKLY CHILDCARE FOR THE KIDS AND THIS IS THE PROBLEM - WILL REMEDY. I’M ALSO SIGNING UP FOR CLASSES THAT START IN MARCH SO I HAVE MY OWN WEEKLY WORKOUT & IMPROVE MY GAME.

  5. Swim once a week - I MUST’VE BEEN HIGH ON THE SUMMER SUN. WILL REVISIT WHEN THAT HIGH RETURNS.

  6. Drink 2 litres water everyday - WORKED WELL WHEN I WAS WORKING OUT.

  1. Go fishing : Morayo-Hope - TO DO IN THE SUMMER COS I’M NOT FALLING INTO THE FREEZING RIVER FOR A FISH I’M THROWING BACK IN.

  2. Do a 5k run : Kola - SMASHED IT OUT THE PARK!

  3. Skydive : Joy - FOUND A COMPANY THAT DOES IT. STILL TRYING TO DECIDE IF I’D RATHER DIE FALLING OUT OF THE SKY OR BUY A DELICIOUS PAIR OF SHOES AND DIE ANOTHER DAY.

  4. Go on a solo trip: Kitty (@kittyandb) via instagram - ON THE CARDS, CURRENTLY CONSIDERING A SILENT RETREAT TO GET AWAY FROM IT ALL & FIND MYSELF IN A ZEN MOMENT.

  5. Enrol on a Fashion / Interior Design course: Alicia - FOUND COURSE, SAVING UP THE PENNIES.

  6. 3 positive affirmations about myself daily: Tinashe - THIS MIGHT’VE BEEN GOOD IF I’D REMEMBERED IT. I SHALL BEGIN TODAY!


Ok, so i’m not completely upset with where i’m at! I think i’m doing pretty ok, there’s still a ways to go. I can safely say the procrastination section is telling me something….maybe I really don’t want to do the sewing / knitting / crochet. One thing I thought was on the list but is missing is going for a ski lesson. I definitely want to do this - if only for the ski bunny outfit - haha! Anyway, look out for my side-note posts on the books i’ve read and also the upcycling project i’m going to tackle. I can’t wait!
